Ingredients

4 servings
  • 240 ml red or yellow lentils
  • 1 onion
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 2.5 ml turmeric
  • 5 ml cumin seeds
  • 2.5 ml mustard seeds
  • 2 dried red chili
  • 30 ml butter or oil
  • to garnish coriander leaves

Instructions

Plan my prep
  1. Step 1.Boil lentils with turmeric until soft, 20 min.
  2. Step 2.Saute onion until golden. Add garlic, ginger, tomatoes. Cook 10 min.
  3. Step 3.Combine with lentils. Simmer 10 min.
  4. Step 4.Make tadka: heat butter, add cumin, mustard, dried chili until sputtering.
  5. Step 5.Pour tadka over dal. Garnish with coriander.
