- 4 slices cheddar or American cheese
- 4 brioche burger buns, split
- 30 g butter, softened, for the buns

Instructions
- Step 1.Tip the ground beef into a bowl, add the garlic powder and mix gently with your hands. Divide into 4 equal balls and shape into patties slightly wider than the buns, pressing a shallow dimple into the center of each.
- Step 2.Season both sides of the patties generously with salt and pepper right before cooking.
- Step 3.Heat the olive oil in a heavy skillet or grill pan over high heat until very hot.
- Step 4.Add the patties and sear, without pressing them down, for about 3 minutes until a deep crust forms underneath.
- Step 5.Flip the patties and cook the other side for 2 to 3 minutes. In the last minute, lay a slice of cheese on each and cover briefly so it melts.
- Step 6.Meanwhile, butter the cut sides of the buns and toast them in a separate pan or on the grill until golden.
- Step 7.Build each burger: bun base, lettuce, tomato, the cheesy patty, then red onion, and crown with the bun top.
- Step 8.Serve immediately while hot and the cheese is molten.
