- 170 g unsalted butter, melted
- 300 g granulated sugar
- 85 g unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 95 g all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 170 g semisweet chocolate chips, optional

Instructions
- Step 1.Heat the oven to 350 F (175 C). Grease an 8-inch (20 cm) square baking pan or line it with parchment.
- Step 2.In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter with the sugar and cocoa powder until smooth and glossy.
- Step 3.Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla until fully combined.
- Step 4.Add the flour and salt and fold in just until no dry streaks remain; do not overmix.
- Step 5.Fold in the chocolate chips if using.
- Step 6.Scrape the batter into the prepared pan and spread it level.
- Step 7.Bake for 28 to 32 minutes, until the top is set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Step 8.Cool completely in the pan on a rack before cutting into 16 squares.
